As premiums in the individual health insurance market continue their steady climb, it is important to remember that subsidies are available. This edition of our Newsletter will be all about subsidies available in the individual insurance market. We’ll discuss the different kinds, and how to quality.
In this 2nd issue of the KDM Insurance Newsletter of 2015, we will be discussing important changes coming in 2016 specific to the insurance carriers here in Colorado. This newsletter will focus exclusively on the health plans serving the individual health insurance market. Note that, presently, all plans (and premiums) associated with Colorado Insurance carriers are being reviewed by the Colorado Division of Insurance and the DOI can force changes. Therefore, it is still too early to be able to get specific rates and plan details but we do know quite a bit and would like to pass this information along. I'll address the carriers alphabetically to make it easy to find the one that particularly interests you.
Welcome to KDM's first Newsletter of 2015. As you can imagine, change continues to be the norm in the health insurance industry as carriers adapt and stay competitive. Along the way, KDM Insurance has helped numerous individual and group clients apply and receive available subsidies, but for some individuals, premiums are beginning to resemble mortgage payments. Therefore we take our work here seriously and want you know we're here for you. We believe education is a powerful weapon and putting it in your hands, has always been a priority! We'll address issues across many products so please use what you can, call our office with any questions and forward this and upcoming Newsletters freely to those you believe it may help.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA), otherwise known as Health Care Reform, will affect the vast majority of Americans and yet with about six months to go before its implementation, there is still a profound unfamiliarity with the details. In April, 2013, The Kaiser Foundation conducted a Health Tracking Poll (http://kff.org/health-reform ) which discovered the following:
· Nearly all American’s get reform information regarding health care from friends and the news.
· About half say they do not have enough information to understand how it will impact their own family; this number rises among the uninsured and low-income households.
· 42 percent of Americans are still unaware that Reform is the law of the land.
Therefore we appreciate the opportunity to be a reliable source of information for the upcoming changes.
Beginning January 1, 2014, millions of Americans will gain access to health care which they previously were denied due to pre-existing conditions. Furthermore an estimated 30 million Americans, who are currently uninsured, will be required to purchase insurance or be forced to pay a penalty/tax. Bottom line… This Affordable Care Act will literally affect EVERYBODY financially and therefore we want you to be sufficiently informed and know that you can count on us to answer your questions when the time comes.
